Self-Regulation: I am always on time and I come to every class unless I am sick. When I am not here I always catch up on missed work and complete it on time. I am on my iPod most of the time in class but I get my work done. I am not tempted to look at my iPod, but when i need to listen i do. Something I should improve is writing formal response. Obstacles I encounter are writing theses, but I try my best to do it. Even though it may not be the best thesis. I have completed all assignments. I deserve 30/33 because I have completed all assignments, kept my ipod temptations under control, and I come to every class.
Quality of Communication Skills: I can identify poetic devices and I can give examples of poetic devices. At times i may forget or mix them up. I can recognize the difference between informal and formal responses. My informal
writing is great however my formal writing needs progress. Regardless of my bd formal responses I get help from my good buddies Jasluv and Jagdeep. I have trouble
making connections because I am close minded. Although connections with media
and other people is for me and I don't know why. My use of words in writing is not that good,
but I am working on applying better suitable and bigger words. I deserve 28/33 in communication skills.
Contribution to the Learning Environment: I have never gone back to fix my posts after somebody has given feedback, I know I should. Either I forget or I am too lazy to change it. My comments have decreased ever since the mid term. When I do comment I try to make it meaningful. I do not offer a lot of help in technology because I am not great with technology. However when my peers need help in proof reading or when they are stuck I help them out and give my ideas. I have completed all assignments on time and with effort. I read on my own for personal pleasure sometimes. The book I have started to read is “The House of Hades” By Rick Riordan. I think I deserve 29/33.

Interact and collaborate in pairs and groups-I have proved this by talking to group and discussing ideas and thoughts.

ReplyDeleteI love your written responses Himmat. Your exmaples for the PLOs are a little misdirected and superficial (you didn't demonstrate the ability to work in a group outside of your safety net "friends" and I'm not convinced you understand "comparing elements" with texts) your reflection about your strengths and weaknesses in class are quite accurate. The trick now will to be to NOT let the "I don't know why" stand o its own... you need to figure out WHY you don't review your own work!? The only other thing I would say is that you percentages for the Quality of Work section and the Contribution to learning section don't seem to reflect your written assessment. You have identified areas of weakness but graded quite high? Do you have examples of when you positively impacted the learning of someone in the class NOT at the back table? Find your best examples from those two pillars and then we will finalize the percent. :) Well done final post Himmat.
ReplyDeleteI know i don't talk outside of my comfort zone or my group, but i do help people out of my group of friends. I have helped sukhleen when she is stuck, i giver her ideas and i give feedback. I know i have graded myself higher then i deserve because i wanted an A so badly that i lied to myself. After giving it some though i think i deserve a 85%
ReplyDeleteHimmat I think you are at a low A, this is because you do help me at times and i don't really sit at your table. Another reason is you try to be nice to everyone who is in the class who talk's to you, you are a little shy and i think that was the main reason you didn't talk in class.
ReplyDeleteHimmat I really appreciate your comment about wanting an A. It is okay to want a high mark... we have talked at length about all of the very real reasons that happens to kids. Parents, teachers, media... we all make it about a mark instead of the learning. Abhi has confirmed he feels you fall in the A range and given you some examples too! I truly believe this mark will NOT impact your life in the long term, so I don't want to haggle about the number... however, I AM interested in the huge conversation we could have about your idea that you have lied to yourself. What does that mean? Why do you want an A? What stopped you from feeling good about earning an A instead of asking for it at the end? These are meaningful and learning filled questions. The ability to be metacognitive will help you get As in all of your classes and in life after school Himmat so keep working on being honest with yourself and setting goals to be better for you... not for a mark or a teacher. :) 86 splits the difference... what letter grade is that? ;)
